Myths and Facts: A Guide to the Arab-Israeli Conflict
by Mitchell Bard
Solid reference for history and background. Mitch is the director of the Jewish Virtual Library which I use quite frequently. He is currently updatating the paper version but maintains an active resource here
Be a Refusenik: A Jewish Student's Survival Guide,
by Izabella Tabarovsky
Izabella is perhaps the world’s leading authority on Judaism in the former Soviet Union. This forthcoming book presents first hand stories from original refuseniks such as Natan Sharansky and Alexander Smukler and shares current lived experiences from activists such as Shabbos Kestenbaum and Eyal Yakoby. The paths for young adults today are clear from the lessons of the past.
The NoVaChai Reading Room is a collection of books for young adults recommended by NoVaChai board members and affiliated educators. The purpose of the Reading Room is to provide additional resource for students to explore Jewishness and Jewish history both individually and as groups.
